Film score cost
Film score cost at Dutch Sound Works starts at €5,000, excluding VAT. The final price depends on how much music the film needs, whether we record musicians, and how much sound design and mixing come with it. The proposal names the price before we start writing.

A few things that can change the price
How much music the film has
The score for The New York Times' 175th anniversary video runs just over a minute. A feature film can need music in most of its scenes, and more music can add to the price.
Musicians in the studio
Recording live players or singers, in place of instruments played on a computer, is priced on top.
Recurring themes
A score built on themes that return for characters or places usually takes more writing than music that only sets a mood.
Sound design and the mix
If we also design the sound and make the final mix, it's one price for all of it.
Series and trailers
A series or a trailer gets its own price in the proposal, just like a film score. Trailer music has a page of its own, and you can request a proposal for whatever you're making.

Some things to know before you budget
A score is written to the picture
Every change of scene gets its own music, timed to your cut.
Our film work
Before you set a budget, listen to our film work, such as the character themes for Jimmy, a Dutch horror film. Besides scores, we make sound design and voice-overs, and the rest is on our services page.
How it works
Step 1
Send the script or the edit
Tell us about the film, the deadline, and the budget. Someone from our team sends you a proposal with the price.
Step 2
Every scene that needs music
We go through the edit with the director and list each scene that needs music.
Step 3
Writing, recording, mixing
Our composers write the score, record the players it needs, and mix it with the sound, and you get the finished score for every version of the film.
