The brief
A brand film for the paper’s 175th anniversary, about independent journalism. The music had to feel urgent and keep moving without getting dramatic.
What we did
We tried several directions and built the score on live drums, percussion, and synthesizers. It picks up during fast cuts in the video and makes room at moments like the moon landing.
Listen for
The typewriters. The New York Times gave us recordings of typewriters and keyboards from its own newsroom, and we used them as part of the rhythm.
